Research Interests:

Optical Networks: metro and access optical networks. Wavelength services, provisioning of Triple Play and PWE3 services over novel metro architecture. PBB-TE, T-MPLS, MPLS-TP concepts over Metro Ethernet. 100 Gigabit Ethernet MAC, Multi-degree ROADMs, optical + wireless integration and Photonic Integrated Circuits.

Access Networks: GEPON, 10GE PON, alternate PON models, traffic engineering in the access area.

Metro and Enterprise Networks: Storage area networking, Data Centers, Cloud Computing, Application Oriented Networks (AONs) and Metro Ethernet.

Network Algorithmics: Traffic grooming, application of auctioning techniques, concurrency models, non-linear-non-convex optimization, utility models.

Consulting activities: I have engaged in the past vendors, providers, carriers and network integrators. I also have served as subject matter expert, expert witness and portfolio evaluator for telco and broadband networks.

New!! Our Omnipresent Ethernet test-bed is now up and running. It is passing Triple Play Traffic at this time. A post-deadline paper at OFC 2009 was also presented on this concept by our group.

New!! Our IITB DynaSPOT (Dynamic Service Provisioned Optical Transport) Test-Bed is functional and is shown here through a paper (OFC 2007 post deadline). It is a state of the art low-cost metro network that can provision sub-wavelength traffic for various services (like VoIP, PWE3, Storage and Video) using SLiT (Strongly Connected Light-trail) Technology.

I have worked with Cisco Systems in the Optical Networking Group (ONG), Fujitsu Laboratories in Photonic Networking Research Group, Fujitsu Network Communications in the Photonics Networking Laboratory (PNL), Business Communication Networks as a Consultant, a faculty member in the CSE department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and the Research Laboratory in Electronics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (MIT).
